Telling their story through Interviews
Working with Airbnb to put a face and story to the home.
We have had the pleasure of working with Airbnb on their public policy team since 2015. In 2023 they contacted us about capturing stories of how Airbnb hosts in Nashville use their rental income. They wanted to showcase the benefit the rental income has to not only the homeowners, but also the city through economic growth, supporting businesses, and more. As the city has continued to grow and the standard of living has risen to astronomical levels, homeowners have found that being an Airbnb host has allowed them to stay in their homes through the additional income.
Michael and Nancy open their doors to travelers because they enjoy the company and love sharing their favorite shops and restaurants. “I’m a fourth-generation Nashvillian and I know about all parts of this town,” says Michael. “So I created a blog that emphasizes local businesses. I love the idea of supporting people who are trying to live out a dream.”
Nancy, who recently retired, says hosting “enabled me to help take care of my 90-year-old mom and gave me the opportunity to do some of the things I wouldn’t be able to do if I was still working.”
Mike and Nancy’s story is such a great one for explaining the benefits of short term rentals. They’re both older and they love their city and they use hosting as a way to meet new people and offer a super affordable option to visitors to Nashville.

THE PROCESS
In this interview, we sat down and talked for about 30 minutes about all of the aspects of their experience with hosting on Airbnb. The goal was to have a 60 second video that told their story in the most authentic way possible, and we feel we accomplished it beautifully. It really is an honor to get to work with real people and tell their real stories and experience.
